Are you looking for an experienced newborn photographer
Firstly, choosing an experienced newborn photographer can make your experience more seamless & stress free. A professional who specialises in newborn photography will understand the importance of newborn baby safety and comforts when undertaking the session. It’s also so important that you have a joyful and memorable experience, visiting a newborn photography studio or welcoming a newborn photographer into your home in the very early days of parenthood might feel daunting. It’s important that you feel you’re in kind and gentle hands, with a photographer that is experienced, they will be more mindful of the gentle energy better suited to newborn photoshoots.
When is the best time to look for a newborn photographer?
Everyone plans differently, my advice would be to book a newborn photographer in at around your 20 week pregnancy scan. You can book a newborn photographer in for a floating date session a week after your due date. An experience newborn photographer will be flexible in their diary to accommodate a change in date when little one arrives should you need to. It’s important that everyone feels comfortable for when their newborn photography session will take place.
Look for a style that resonates with you
The photographers in Hertfordshire & Cambridge have a varying range of style. There are more white & bright, light & airy photographers, photographers who pose newborn babies using props & outfits. Some photographers are studio based, some are happy to come to you at home. I would describe my photography style as warm, natural, timeless & cosy. I lean more towards natural skin tones, a mixture between earthy and romantic tones, use of texture & light features heavily in my work. I’m naturally casual & laid back, I take a gentle & unobtrusive approach to building connection between the people that I’m photographing & therefore true emotion shines through in my photos. I want you to remember what did it feel like. So I’m not about posing & smiles, I’d say my photography is lifestyle portraiture… more natural, less posed & forced. Research your newborn photographer
Pop your search into google, read their Google reviews, to gain some insight into first hand experience of previous clients. What do people say about working with that photographer? How did they make them feel? Take some time to read through the websites, find them on Instagram, get to know them a little better, perhaps book in a call. Look at the photographers portfolio work or journals of any newborn photographer you find whose work speaks to you.
Which location - at home or in a studio?
There is no right or wrong answer here, it’s important that you feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your newborn photoshoot. An experienced newborn photographer who’s confident with natural light, could come to your home and still create a studio like finish in the comfort of your house. Or you might prefer to go to a home from home newborn photography studio. Do what feels right for you. As a lifestyle photographer, I am experienced in both natural light settings in clients own homes, but also offer a beautiful natural light studio setting on the outskirts of Hertfordshire.
When is best to have a newborn photography session?
As an experienced newborn and baby photographer, I have had the joy of photographing babies of all stages, there is no right or wrong time. Don’t feel you cannot book a newborn or baby session for little ones that are older than the newborn stage; all stages are beautiful and worth of capturing. They will never be this tiny again. For newborn sessions the best time is during their first 3 weeks as they are still super sleepy, generally more settled and love to be swaddled. But all babies are different, there’s no expectation here and any age is so welcome.

More established & experienced photographers will have taken care of all the little details & fine tuned their client experience... but not all. A detailed session guide → Ahead of our time together & upon paying your deposit, you’ll receive a digital session guide full of so much inspiration & useful tips to help you prepare for your session. Whether we’re out at golden hour with little ones, I’m coming to you at home, or you’re here at my studio - I’ve got you covered. There’s styling & colour palette tips & tricks, what not to wear, what to bring… and so much more.
A carefully curated & timeless client wardrobe → Getting everyone ready for a session can feel overwhelming, or buying a dress just to wear for that one photoshoot totally unnecessary. I’ve carefully curated a wardrobe with pregnancy & postpartum in mind. I have selected the most beautiful & timeless everyday flowy & boho dresses, cute little tops & sets to chose from. I have also invested in the most delicate & beautiful newborn outfits. You don’t have to use them but they are there for complimentary use, but I’m also so happy to provide styling advice if you’d like help choosing what to wear.

Flexible payment plans → Many families book me to capture it all… their pregnancy, newborn, and yearly family sessions. I offer pregnancy & newborn packages, discount by £100, and then flexible payment plans for the remaining balance once deposits are paid. I believe deeply that investing in family photography will be your most valuable investment, so I try to make it as accessible to all as possible. It’s so important to me that your family chapters are documented & memories held in time. I also offer refer a friend discount - £50 off your next session or a £20 gift voucher of your choice.
After your session → After our time together I will carefully select & lovingly hand edit your images to produce a beautiful gallery to make your selections from. You’ll receive a little message from me to let you know your private online gallery is ready, with time & encouragement to make it a cosy date night of nibbles & yummy things. You can download your favourite 5 and, if you wish, order fine art prints or heirloom albums delivered straight to your home — no in-person sales, no pressure, just beautiful ways to keep your memories close.
